What is Chantix Used for?
Chantix is used for helping smokers to kick the habit. To do this, the drug stimulates and blocks the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor found in some neurons in the body. This partial agonist stimulates the receptor to reduce cravings and dependency, but blocks the additional release of the pleasure chemical dopamine. It is the release of dopamine that gives smoking its pleasurable feeling and the stimulation of the receptor that causes the desire for more. Chantix is seen as a high quality method of reducing nicotine dependency in smokers. This is with the exception of children and pregnant women due to a lack of testing.
What is Chantix Used for Other than Smoking?
There are no official uses for Chantix other than smoking and the FDA will only currently allow prescriptions for smoking addiction therapy. Small scale studies have shown a possible link between Chantix and overcoming other addictions such as alcohol addiction. The trial suggested drinkers who took the pill prior to drinking alcohol found themselves wanting less drink than normal. There is no conclusive suggestion by the FDA of other uses at the moment. This means Chantix is a prescription only medicine for smokers and KwikMed are licensed to prescribe online for smokers only.
Is Chantix Used for Depression?
No Chantix is used for depression, in fact a possible side effect in a small number of Chantix users is depression, while an even smaller number of uses will experience a high from the medication. Most side effects are unlikely, this includes nausea and headaches, while flatulence and constipation are even less likely. The KwikMed consultation is designed to help prevent cardiovascular disease being a problem. Links between Chantix and depression have not been formally linked by the FDA, but concerns remain and should be considered while taking the medication. It is thought this might be the result of withdrawal symptoms rather than the medicine itself.
